Frenchy Coffee Table

Remember this Frenchy coffee table from earlier this week? Well I've got a reveal for you! Thanks to my in-laws who are in town, I worked on it over a 3-day period for about an hour and a half at a time. It's one of the quickest pieces I've completed to date. Thank you Momma and Poppa for watching our little Annie!

Here's what I started with. A shiny speckled brown finish that was cramping the coffee table's style.

After stripping the top with Mot's Lift Off and sanding it down with an electric sander, I stained it with two coats of Minwax Dark Walnut. The bottom of the table was hand-sanded with 80-grit sandpaper and painted with two coats of Sherwin Williams paint in Destiny (a corny sounding name for paint, but who cares when it's free!). It's a light grey that has the tiniest bit of magenta in it. And I lied a little, the table isn't completely done. I still need to add a few coats of Wipe On Poly, but that shouldn't take long!

It's a new look for me and I really like it. The beautiful wood is exposed and the grey provides a nice contrast. Can't wait to have it join my other items at Grace Hart & Co. If you're curious, this is what the store looks like on the outside. It's located on a great street with other antique and vintage clothing stores.

Poppa and I went there this morning to drop off my furniture and I'm now officially in their system! I can bring new items in whenever I want. I'll be going there this weekend and will take pictures of the inside to share with you all. Thanks to my mom, dad, and brother for allowing me store and work on my furniture in their homes. Without help from both my families, this day wouldn't have been possible. THANK YOU ALL!

Lovely Beasts is on Consignment!

I have the BEST BEST BEST news! My furniture is going on consignment at Grace Hart & Co. in the Heights area of Houston, TX. Woo-hoo! Soon I'll see these pieces displayed in the store.

It's so exciting! I hope some of my stuff sells! I can't wait to work on more furniture and maybe one day have my own booth. One small step...

Shades of Grey

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. I've had a terrible cold/sore throat. I've had to take a break from just about everything except being a mom. This morning I was still feeling yucky, but tried to ignore it and started working on this coffee table I bought at an estate sale last month for $5.

It's hard to tell, but the top had a couple scratches that were worn down to the wood. The table also had that ugly speckled finish. Right now I'm working on stripping off the top with Motsenbocker's Lift Off and sanding the sides down with 80 grit sandpaper.

My plan is to paint the sides and re-stain and re-finish the top. I'm not thinking white paint this time though. I'm leaning towards grey. Grey would look nice with this table, but I'm choosing it mostly because I got seven different quart-sized Sherwin Williams paint samples from a woman nearby for free. Apparently she bought 20 different samples of grey paint to test on the interior of her house before deciding on the perfect shade. Sounds a little privileged to me! But hey, if I can reap some of the benefits I guess I can't be too judgmental.
